Chief cook claims trial to drug charges

Kota Kinabalu: A 28-year-old chief cook claimed trial at the High Court here to two counts of trafficking cannabis and another count of having the drug.Noel Harry Hungan was brought before Judge Datuk Nurchaya Haji Arshad on Wednesday to face the charges against him.On the first count, Noel is accused of trafficking 2,811gm of cannabis at 5.40pm on May 10, 2016 near the toilet area at the Poslaju office here.

On the second count, he is accused of having 51.20gm of cannabis at 8pm on the same day in a double-storey house at Kg Tahib Papason, Jalan Putatan in Penampang.Noel, on the third count, allegedly trafficked 3,768gm of cannabis at 10.45am on May 11 at the AirAsia Cargo area here.He faces the death penalty if found guilty on the first and third count which were framed under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA).The second count under Section 6 of the DDA provides for a jail term of up to five years of fine or both on conviction.

The court set April 27 for mention of the case and ordered Noel further remanded as the first and third count against him have no provision for bail.Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali prosecuted while Noel was represented by counsel Dato' Seri Rakhbir Singh.

Meanwhile, the court fixed May 8 – 9 for the trial of a 22-year-old technician charged with trafficking 7,494gm of syabu.Lim Cheng Yung is accused of committing the offence at 2.50pm on May 19, 2016 at the arrival hall of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.In the same court, another man, Ho Yee Onn, 35, charged with trafficking 4,396gm of syabu, will go on trial on June 12 – 15.Ho is accused of committing the offence together with one Woo Kah Paul, 20, who is still at large, at 3.40pm on May 21, 2016 at the arrival hall of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Both Lim and Ho were also charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the death sentence on conviction.They were represented by counsel Ram Singh.– Jo Ann Mool
