Jailed 36 months for stealing handphones

Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate's Court here sentenced a local man to 36 months' jail for stealing two handphones belonging to another man.Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie handed the sentence to Abdul Talip Omar who admitted to stealing the handphones at 11.25am on Apr 28 this year at the men's toilet in Star City Complex, here.The offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, or fine, or both, on conviction.

The court ordered Abdul to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.In the same court, a 31-year-old Filipino was sent to prison for two years for stealing six pieces of sarong valued at RM179.40.Samsuri Davis Tanitoi was found stealing the sarong at 5.10pm on Apr 15 this year at the Kain Mewah premises in Segama, near here.Inspector Rasydan Jasni appeared for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man was fined RM2,000 in default two weeks' jail for driving under the influence of alcohol.Lee Ong Siong admitted to drink-driving along Jalan Coastal here on Jan 1 this year.
