Lucky escape for boy, 13

Kota Kinabalu: A 13-year-old boy was lucky to escape with only slight injuries after he was grazed by a Hilux vehicle as he crossed a road in Penampang, Thursday.The 32-year-old Hilux driver was heading towards Penampang from the direction of the State police headquarters when the mishap took place at a traffic light junction.

The driver claimed the boy continued to cross the road despite the traffic lights turning green and that he managed to step on the emergency brakes but not quite in time.

The impact also caused the man's Hilux to be rear-ended by a D-Max driven by a 36-year-old man who was heading towards Pavilion from Towering.

In a separate incident, a 140-foot long container transporting fruits keeled over at a roundabout near the Road Transport Department headquarters along Jalan Bundusan at about 11am.

The lorry driver in his 30s said he was transporting the goods to Penampang from Sepanggar when the container detached from the lorry.
