Local man, 50, dies while descending Mt Kinabalu

Ranau: A 50-year-old local died after experiencing respiratory complications while descending Mount Kinabalu on Wednesday morning.Kinabalu Park Manager Yassin Miki said the incident occurred at approximately 7.30am near the Panar Laban Hut, but declined to reveal further details.
Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Jimmy Laggung, when contacted, said the victim, Khoo Chang Siang, was found unconscious earlier while climbing down from the summit.

He said the Auxiliary Fire Officer, Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) received a notification of the incident from a Mountain Guide through the walkie-talkie before rushing to the scene.
"The location where the incident took place was Km 5.9, about 50 metres from Laban Rata.
As we arrived at the scene, personnel from the Kinabalu Park Mountain Search and Rescue (ParkSAR) were already there.
"We were told by the Mountain Guide that the victim was having difficulty breathing and the ParkSAR managed to give him CPR, but the victim became unconscious.

"Our effort were focused on carrying down the victim to Timpohon Gate on a stretcher, and we arrived about 8.26am, before handing the victim over to the police and medical personnel," he said.
