Indonesian biker killed
Papar: A 61-year old Indonesia businessman died after his Harley Davidson motorcycle rammed into a Toyota Hilux at Km7, Jalan Lama Papar-Kota Kinabalu, on Monday. District Police Chief DSP Norazizulkifli Mansor said the deceased was speeding from Kota Kinabalu to Labuan during the 7.15am tragedy.

"Upon reaching the site of the incident, the victim tried to overtake the Hilux driven by a 51-year old contract supervisor. The latter was trying to turn into a right junction from the main road.

"The victim did not manage to avoid the Hilux and rammed the centre of the vehicle.

The impact caused severe injuries on the victim's head, face and body, and was pronounced dead at the scene," he said. Both the Toyota driver and his passenger did not suffer any injury. The victim's motorcycle was registered in Indonesia.

Preliminary investigation showed that the accident was caused by the victim speeding in order to get to Menumbok Ferry Terminal on time.

The Indonesian was also believed to be unfamiliar with the road there.

He was believed to have failed to notice the road sign that warned motorists of the danger of the accident-prone area and should have slowed down.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987. - Tracy Patrick
