Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Rhinos were brought back down to earth after they were hammered 3-1 by PDRM in the Premier League match at the Likas Stadium on Tuesday night. The players who were praised by fans for their heroic display against Negeri Sembilan in the second leg of the FA Cup quarterfinal tie on Friday looked jaded and out of sorts, and were duly punished by their fresher opponents.

After a bright start with Leopold Alfonso and Rahman Shah Marajeh both testing the PDRM keeper, it was the visitors with their fast passing game that found the net first.

Captain Safuwan Baharudin managed to escape the marking from Rawilson Batuil to head in a cross from Muhd Jalamri in the 15th minute for the opener.

Sabah tried to regroup after that and Maxsius Musa had a shot that was denied by the post before PDRM extended their lead minutes later with a penalty which was converted by Bakary Dao in the 34th minute.

However, Maxsius managed to redeem himself and gave Sabah a lifeline four minutes later with a header from a free kick taken by Masaya Jitozono.

The second half again saw Sabah starting on a positive note with Alto Lino's shot turned away by the PDRM keeper followed by another strike by Rahman that missed the target.

Then, the home side midfield suddenly switched off allowing Shahurain Samah a clear run to score the third goal and put the score beyond doubt for the visitors.

Defender Igor Cerina was then pushed up to play as striker and he almost scored but his goal-bound shot was cleared off the line and Sabah also ended the match with only 10 men after Rahman was sent off for punching one of the PDRM players.

With bottom club team Perlis managing to draw 1-1 with Negeri Sembilan in an early match played on Tuesday, there is now only one point separating the two sides.

Sabah's next match is against Terengganu here at the Likas Stadium on May 5. - GL Oh
