Sipitang: The sixth edition of the Gasing and Tamu Festival will be held here on April 28 to 30. The biennial festival will be based on the traditional spinning top and tamu but would also feature numerous entertainment such as Tanglung march, decorated bicycles, as well as performances from invited artistes like Malaysian Rock Queen Ella.

Sipitang Member of Parliament Datuk Sapawi Ahmad said the festival will be based on people's cultures and will be launched by the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on April 29.

Among the competitions to be held during the three days will include spinning tops and tug of war.

"Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore will also compete in the tug of war competition alongside local teams, as well as teams from the other states.

"There will also be folklore dances by local troupes, West Malaysians, Brunei and also Indonesia," he said.

On top of that, cultural, traditional food and fun fair booths would also be opened during the event and Sapawi expects some 30,000 visitors to turn up for the event.

Towards this end, apart from promoting Sipitang as a tourist destination the festival will be themed 'Daie Sipitang Kuan Biskita' (in English, From Sipitang, For You). – Iskandar Dzulkifli
