Last Saturday of July now King's official birthday

PETALING JAYA: The official birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V has been moved so that it falls on the last Saturday of July.According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Department on Wednesday, the King's official birthday celebration has been moved from the first Saturday of June to the last Saturday of July.

This will come into effect for the next five years under the rule of Sultan Muhammad V, the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, from 2017 to 2021.

"This amendment takes into consideration that the first Saturday of June in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019 falls in the month of Ramadan.

"With this amendment, the birthday celebration of His Highness Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V can be celebrated together with the public according to the scheduled events," the statement said.

Following the amendment, the King's birthday for this year will be celebrated on Saturday, July 29.
