Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Chin Su Phin's Senatorship will officially end on May 28 this year after having served as a member of the House of Senate for six consecutive years. He hoped that all Senators would continue to debate bills and provide constructive suggestions in the Senate.

"Senators should play their supervisory role effectively to prove that they are more than just a rubber stamp."

Chin, who is also Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Deputy President, was appointed as Senator for two consecutive terms in 2011 and 2014 respectively. The Federal Constitution has a two-term limit for Senatorship.

When debating the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's speech in the Dewan Negara on April 17, Chin said it was his last Dewan Negara sitting as a Senator.

He expressed gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for their trust in appointing him as a Senator for two terms.

He also thanked LDP President Datuk Teo Chee Kang for recommending him for Senatorship.

"I wish to thank the President, Deputy President, Secretary and officers of the Senate, Cabinet Ministers and all the Senators who have rendered much assistance to me in the past six years," Chin said, adding that he has gained valuable experience during his tenure.

"I also had the opportunity to attend Senate sittings at the House prior to and after its renovation."

On another note, Chin said he would be spending more time on his career and family.

"Of course, as the Barisan Nasional (BN) Sandakan parliamentary division chairman, I will continue to executive my duties to serve the people. "

Chin stressed that he would also strive to assist the BN candidate for Sandakan in regaining the parliamentary seat.
