Kota Kinabalu: Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC) President Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah (pic), J.P, described the announcement by Najib as a right and timely decision. He said SUCCC believed it would help lessen Sabahans' burden as the price of goods here are 30pc higher than peninsula, especially to rural folks in the interior and east coast area where the goods are much higher due to additional land transportation."It is indeed good news to all Sabahans. With this liberation we foresee a drop in pricing of goods that would benefit the people in the state and to those living in rural areas as they face even higher goods pricing due to extra transportation fee," he said.ADVERTISEMENT "We had discussed this matter with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and received positive reaction from both. I believe they played a significant role in this matter and I'm grateful to them," he said.He said the policy was the main agenda for SUCCC which set up a Transport and Logistic Committee headed by Wong Thart Sing to prepare the agenda to Associate Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Malaysia (ACCCIM) to be forward to the Prime Minister and Memorandum of Understanding to the Transport Minister. According to him, SUCCC shared the same view with other bodies in the state that the policy is one of the main contributors to the high cost of goods in Sabah and that this situation had troubled Sabahans for more than 30 years."With the liberation it would also open up the international cargo shipping industry of the state that would benefit five port cities in Sabah, these are Tawau, Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Kudat and Kota Kinabalu Sepanggar, thus lift the economic activities of the five area," he added.
