Gang 24 links: 42 secondary students among 52 charged

KLANG: Forty-two secondary school students were among 52 young people who were charged in court here over the Gang 24-linked cake-cutting ruckus in Klang last month.A college student was also among those charged. All the accused, aged between 15 and 18, produced themselves at the Klang Magistrate's Court accompanied by family members.According to the charge sheets, they were charged with getting involved in illegal gatherings, as shown in the video of a "celebration" with a cake bearing the number "24" being cut on April 20 and 21 between 12.30pm and 1.15pm on both days.

The offences were said to have taken place in front of SMK Seri Andalas, SMK Kampung Jawa, SMK Raja Mahadi and behind SK Simpang Lima, here.Six of them also faced two charges in the case. The offence was punishable under Section 143 of the Penal Code for illegal assembly.They face imprisonment of up to six months or a fine, or both, upon conviction.Three of them pleaded guilty while 49 others claimed trial to the charges.

During the one-hour closed proceedings, they were charged together but were called to the chambers in batches.All their names were withheld as most of them are underage, and several are young offenders.

Magistrate Nor Asma Ahmad fixed bail at between RM800 and RM1,000 in one surety, and set July 6 for re-mention and also for the sentencing of those who pleaded guilty.Deputy Public Prosecutor Syed Farid Syed Ali prosecuted.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
