Kota Kinabalu: A son of former Chief Minister Tun Mustapha Datu Harun, Datu Badaruddin Tun Mustapha, will likely lead Sabah-based Malaysia United People Party (Bersama) in the 14th general elections. The party is now led by acting president Peter Among.

Badaruddin, known to be a strong supporter of Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal's Parti Warisan, is scheduled to hold a Press conference this weekend to announce his future political direction.

Bersama, which had participated in previous general elections nationwide, has identified a number of seats and likely candidates for the coming general election.

The party had also submitted to the Registrar of Societies to register Saksama Coalition, a political platform of co-operation with other parties that share common aspirations.

Meanwhile, Among, in a statement, disclosed that the party's teams and probable candidates are in many parts of Sabah reaching out to many influential local leaders in communities.

"The people are tired of over 30 years of constant failures and broken promises, mostly by the same leaders or their proxies.

"The people are longing for a new breed of leaders to represent them in the legislative assembly and parliament.

"We are filling up this need and are ready to work with willing parties not just in Sabah but also from Sarawak and the Peninsula."

"Our main wing, the 3B, which stands for Bersama Bebas Bersatu grouping in one house all the bright and brave men and women who believe the current leaders have miserably failed or simply under-performed," he said.

The 3B Wing is headed by the party divisional chief for Kota Marudu Anthony Mandiau.

Besides the usual youth and women wings, Bersama has wings for workers and socialists, moderate muslims, and the christian democrats, each having their respective leaders. - Joseph Bingkasan
