Unrecorded leave for Kaamatan in peninsula

Putra Jaya: Effective this year, government servants born in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan and serving in peninsular Malaysia are allowed to take one day unrecorded leave for the Kaamatan and Gawai festivals.The Prime Minister's Office, in a statement Tuesday, said the matter had the agreement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The statement said it was hoped that the leave would enable these civil servants to celebrate the festivals with their families and the people of Sabah and Sarawak. It was reported on April 29 that Sabah may consider a proposal to make the annual Kaamatan or Harvest Festival a national event with a public holiday for the whole country. Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the suggestion by former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal might be brought up to the state government leadership if the opportunity arises. – Bernama
