Body of Pakistani found in river

Kota Kinabalu: The body of a man believed to have fallen into Sungai Paliau at the IOI Plantation Estate in Beluran and drowned was found on Wednesday.

The remains of Rahman Zep, a 20-year-old Pakistani, addressed at Kampung Nangoh, was discovered about 12.40pm by fire and rescue personnel about 100 metres from where he fell.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Zone Chief Anddree Andrew on Wednesday said a team of six personnel led by Mohd Noorazlan Nordin rushed to the scene following a distress call about 8.51pm on Tuesday.

The search and rescue operation was postponed at about midnight and resumed on Wednesday leading to the discovery of the body.

In Kinabatangan, five people sustained injuries when the vehicles they were travelling in – a Toyota Hilux and a Perodua Viva – collided at Jalan Beluran near Wilma Estate in Kinabatangan, on Tuesday.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Chief Rantey Fred on Wednesday said three of the four people in the Perodua Viva were assisted and rushed to the Beluran Hospital by civilians, while the driver was assisted by firefighters.

The extent of their injuries could not be immediately established.

The operation which involved four personnel led by Mustafa Tahang ended about 6.48pm. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
