Safa Kota Belud crowned champion

Kota Kinabalu: Safa Kota Belud was crowned champion for the East Malaysia region of the 2017 edition of the Allianz Junior Football Camp (AJFC) Malaysia League at the University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Stadium, Saturday. They edged Kalawon from Tenom 1-0 in the final to take home the winning trophy and prize money of RM3,000 from Allianz Malaysia Berhad Chief Market Management Office Susan Ong.

Both teams were unbeaten in the group matches with Safa Kota Belud top in Group B with 22 points from seven win and one draw while their opponents went one better with eight wins from eight matches with 24 points in Group A. Earlier in the play-off, Simfield Academy defeated Tabs Bandaraya 1-0 to take third spot.

There were also several awards given out during the prize presentation where the fair play award went to SM Agama Ahmad Shah, best goalkeeper to Johare Adey Begu, final's man of the match to Rolen Roben from Kalawon, Putra Danile from Maktab Sabah was the top scorer with 11 goals while the best player in the league went to Seherry Aladin from Kalawon.

The 18 players selected to form the East Malaysia region team against teams from four other regions in the grand finals on July 15 are Azlizan Azlan, Johare Adey Begu, Seherry Aladin, Dani Adli Saiful Azua, Peffderik Panait, Joell Joshlee, Steward Jeyson, Syazwan Mohd Nor, Syed Mohd Raqib Ali, Ritchie Svenson Fred Donny, Ajay Jamain, Rolen Roben, Zulrainie Gani, Hasmadi Rosdi, Afniezal Syahrill, Mirzan Noji, Elon Liakim.
