End to sleeping under KL flyover

Kuala Lumpur: A Sabahan family of eight living under a flyover in Cheras for three weeks following eviction from a low cost flat for defaulting on the RM500 monthly rental can heave a sigh of relief.The generous public responded to their plight after it was highlighted in the Star.Odd job worker Jeffry Hussin has been offered a People Housing Project unit in Desa Tun Razak for a monthly rate of RM124, besides cash and goods by samaritans.

Jeffry, 41, was moved to tears when Pandan MCA chairman Datuk Leong Kok Wee and Umno Youth information chief Jamawi Jaafar handed over DBKL's offer letter to him. "I want to thank everyone for getting us out of this place," said Jeffry as he wiped his damp eyes. The former security guard and his family were evicted from their unit in the Low Cost 700 flats here after failing to pay rent for the past two months.The rental was RM500 monthly and the landlord allegedly refused to accept Jeffry's offer to settle it in instalments and had even called him names.

Jeffry, his wife Siti Nor Sazila Zakaria, 30, and their children Siti Nurfadhilah, eight, Siti Nurfatihah, six, Nur Farisha Alesha, four and nine-month-old Nur Cahaya Adawiyah had lived in the rented flat for the past 11 years.Jeffry's sister Nuriana, 38, and her husband Roslan Rahman, 40, were also staying with Jeffry after Roslan lost his job as a waiter.

All eight of them will be put up at the Sabah Government Liaison Office hostel in Taman Cheras Indah until the electrical supply and the paperwork are done by Monday.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Leong, who highlighted the matter after seeing the family living in dire conditions, thanked DBKL for its swift action and the public for its generosity.Throughout the day, many people dropped by to offer their personal contribution, food, water and necessities to the family.
