RM219m set aside for human capital growth: CM

Kota Kinabalu: About RM219.84 million had been allocated this year to implement training programmes for the people including youths, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. Musa said this showed the Government is very concerned with the development of human capital in the State.

"Human capital with quality, skill and who are well trained is essential to ensure the smooth development of the State.

"I therefore call on all youths to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the government through the Youth and Sports Ministry," he said.

Musa said this in his speech read by his Deputy Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin at the State-level Youth Day at the sports complex, Saturday.

He added that the State Government is always doing its best to meet the aspiration and needs of the youth.

"This was proven when the government allocated about RM15.35million to the Youth and Sports Ministry to empower the youth, improve their sporting excellence and mainstreaming the development of youth and sport.

"Youths are future assets who should be harnessed with skills and expertise to contribute to the development and progress of the State.

"As future leaders, they (youth) are the ones who will determine the political stability, economic progress and social prosperity that we enjoy today can be preserved and maintained.

"Thus, the State Government through the Youth and Sports Ministry, is committed to prepare the youth in the State by identifying and fulfilling their needs and aspiration.

"So that they can ensure the success of government policies and programmes including the TN50 National Transformation Policy which was launched recently," he said.

Musa believed that the youth in the State have great talent and potential as well as capability to jointly make a success of the TN50.

Meanwhile, Sabah Youth Council President Nourman Rayn Datuk Dr Ag Zaini advised youths to make themselves knowledgeable young leaders, have a high level of rationality and not get easily influenced by negative propagandas that can have a negative impact on the local community.

"I believe that the youth today are the most intelligent and smart in appreciating the amenities provided by the government.

"I also call on youth to enhance their fighting spirit as volunteer leaders by working sincerity without expecting money," he said.

During the event, Stanley Tulis Missun and Norazian Mohd Tairuddin received the man and women's category award respectively for this year.

Meanwhile, Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia for Sabah (Abim) received the Youth Organisation category award.

Also present at the event was Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Masiung Banah. - Cynthia D Baga
