Cops shoot pushers wielding samurai swords
Tawau: Two Samurai-wielding suspected drug traffickers came under fire after they charged at a police team to avoid arrest at the Gate UTR area in Hulu Tingkayu, Brumas, on Thursday. The 10am incident took place when police tried to stop the duo who were on a motorcycle outside the Gate UTR area. But instead of stopping, they tried to flee into the jungle.

District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus on Saturday said the two men, aged 34 and 14, only stopped when they came to a dead end.

The team tried to detain them and ordered them to surrender but both drew out their Samurai swords.

One of them even tried to slash a policeman standing two feet away.

"Their aggressive manner prompted our team to fire two shots which hit the suspect's left knee and right rib," he said.

This did not stop the man from charging at the policeman which prompted another shot which hit his right arm, only then did the man lower his weapon and ended up being caught by the team.

His 14-year-old accomplice however threw away his Samurai sword before fleeing into a nearby jungle taking with him a black bag.

The paperless older suspect was subsequently taken to the Tawau Hospital for injuries to his knee, rib and arm.

Police are now tracking down the younger suspect known only as Nilam, adding that the older man who tested positive for drugs will be remanded until June 1.

Two Samurai swords measuring 20 inches long, a motorcycle, a handphone, five small tubes containing syabu and a purse were seized.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code. - Lagatah Toyos
