Ranau: More than 900 vacancies were offered by various agencies and private companies during the Ranau Mini Expo and Jobs Carnival 2017 held at the Ranau Community Hall, here, Monday.State Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat said the programme offered a good opportunity for youths in the district to gain employment.

"With the high number of jobs offered, we hope the unemployment rate here will be reduced tremendously," he said.

Siringan, who is also Paginatan Assemblyman, said the programme was not meant to discourage youths to seek jobs overseas.

"We want those who prefer working in Sabah to grab the opportunity provided in this carnival.

For those who want to seek employment in other places like Singapore, Brunei or elsewhere, we have no objection," he said.

He also commended the organisers, namely the Ranau District Office and the Sabah Labour Department (JTK), for successfully organising the event that impacted the career lives of so many job seekers here.

Also present were the Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Datuk Bruno Vun, JTK Director Kamal Pardi, District Officer Faimin Kamin, local leaders and department heads. - Clarence George Dol
