Kota Kinabalu: Sabah head coach Jelius Ating is counting on his players to step up another gear following the signing of two South Koreans in the team when they take on Kuantan FA at the Stadium Darul Makmur in Kuantan tonight (Wednesday)."I hope the players can carry on their winning momentum tomorrow night. Our new signings, Lee (Gil-hoon) and Heo (Jaenyeong) have been impressive during training and their presence hopefully will further motivate the locals in the team," he said on Tuesday.

The team are now out of the relegation zone in ninth place with 10 points, four ahead of 10th place Misc-Mifa with ATM and Perlis occupying the last two places with five points and no point respectively following the penalty points deduction by FAM recently.

Despite the team now safely out of the danger zone, Jelius does not want the players to let their guard down.

"It is important for the team to continue to improve in our remaining games. We may be out of the danger zone at the moment, but we cannot take things for granted. There are still many matches left and the players must focus fully to try to win as many matches as possible.

"My target is for the team to finish as high as possible at the end of the season. We are in the rebuilding process and this team is not merely for this season only. There will be continuation and the players must know that they have a bigger role to play next season," he added.

According to him, Heo will take over the role of Igor Cerina in the centre back position after the Croatian was ruled out for the rest of the season following surgery on his torn ligament in the ankle.

"Heo will partner Rawilson Batuil in the central defensive role supported by Jenius Karib and Alto Linus.

"Lee on the other hand will play up front with either Leopold (Alfonso) or Rahman Shah.

The midfield will be all local players with Sabri (Sahar) and Azizzan (Nordin) in the middle while Maxsius (Musa) and Umareng(Bacok) will play on the flanks."

Meanwhile, the league will take a month break during the fasting month and Sabah Rhinos next match is scheduled on June 30 against PDRM at the Stadium Hang Jebat in Maleka. - GL Oh
