CYBERJAYA: The manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, agriculture and digital lifestyle are key sectors in Malaysia that will benefit from the adoption of Low Power-WAN (LPWAN) technology in the implementation of the Internet-of-Things (IoT).Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Communications and Digital Ecosystem Sector Chief Officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus said LPWAN was among the latest technology in the IoT world that could help make the daily lives of people easier and better.

"These sectors can definitely ride on rapid IoT development to bring business value and enhance our quality of life," he said in his welcoming remark at a seminar on "Digital Lifestyle: IoT Transforming Businesses" here today.

He said the LPWAN technology required considerably less power, which meant saving in electricity or battery consumption, but at the same time it had longer and wider range of coverage.

Mohd Ali said a study had shown that using the applications of IoT in the business sector could save between 30 and 40 per cent of the cost of operations.

"In fact, ABI Research predict that LPWAN technology will be the fastest growing connectivity segment in the market through 2025 where 4 billion IoT devices are expected to rely on LPWAN by 2025 globally," he added.

Mohd Ali said MCMC, in its role as a developer of the communication and multimedia sector, fully supported the development and deployment of communication technologies that facilitated seamless integration with existing devices that made life easier. – Bernama
