88 illegals held in LD op

Lahad Datu: A total of 88 illegal immigrants were detained in a special integrated operation coordinated by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) at six separate locations in Felda Sahabat, here, Monday.Esscom Commander DCP Datuk Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abd Khalid said the eight-hour operation, which began at 2am, focused on areas that have been identified as hiding places for illegals.He said the operation was conducted at Kampung Batu-Batu, Kampung Kenali, Kampung Pangkalan, Kampung Sinakut Lama, Kampung Sinakut Baru and Kampung Sungai Merah.

Wan said the 82 Filipinos and six Indonesians, aged between nine months and 70 were nabbed for not having identification documents."They will be investigated under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/1961 and brought to the Sandakan Temporary Detention Centre for deportation purposes," he said.According to Wan, they also detained a man who tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.He said 32 summonses were issued by the Road Transport Department for various offences during a roadblock conducted during the operation.
