Man wants to plead guilty to lesser charge of manslaughter

Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old self-employed man who was previously charged with murdering another man, informed the court that he wished to plead guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter which was offered to him.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz was informed by Mohd Ramzan Suhaimi's counsel Aida Jaffar Mad Arif that her client intended to admit to the lesser charge after the case was transferred from the Magistrate's Court.

Due to the new development, Aida told the court that she needed some time to prepare the mitigation for Mohd Ramzan who was not brought to court on Tuesday.

Azreena set June 7 for mention and issued an Order To Produce (OTP) on Mohd Ramzan.

Mohd Ramzan is accused of causing the death of handphone technician Mohd Ali Baba Kirim Abdullah, at 11.30pm on Dec 27, 2015 at the car park of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.

The offence under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 30 years, and fine, on conviction.

In the same court, a 53-year-old man was charged with employing an illegal immigrant.

Chin Kwat Choi pleaded not guilty to hiring a Filipina, 30, without any document at noon on March 8 this year at K.C Enterprise in Damai Plaza along Jalan Damai, Luyang.

He was charged under Section 55B of the Immigration Act which provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000, or a jail term of up to 12 months, or both, for each illegal immigrant harboured, on conviction.

Chin's trial was fixed for Aug 17-18 this year and released on a bail of RM2,000 in two local sureties.
