MyKad Printing not due to polls
Tawau: The National Registration Department (NRD) has dismissed speculations that the implementation of its MyKad Distributed Printing Project (DPP) has to do with the coming general election. Its Director-General Dato Mohd Yazid Ramli said the initiative serves to add value to the department's service to the public that involves a long term plan.

He said the project is implemented with strategic partners, Pos Malaysia and a private company, Datasonic, under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).

To a question reagarding the issue of wrong religion on Many Sabah MyKads, Mohd Yazid said it depends of data filled by each appplicant.

"If there's a mistake, we urge card holders to come to the NRD office to rectify it," he said.

Sabah became the first in Malaysia to launch the DPP for MyKad under the National Registration Department (NRD) between April 17 and May 25.

Mohd Yazid said DPP aims to reduce processing time of issuing the MyKad in all NRD branches in the country.

He said the 10 days processing time would be reduced to five in the peninsula and 30 days would become seven in Sabah.

He said the new initiative of the department involves 35 DPP in the country and 15 branches that become the sub-hub.

"In Sabah the programme has involved eight NRD offices that have been equipped with the MyKad printing machine and are able to issue the identification document within 24 hours.

"Among them are NRD Kota Kinabalu, NRD UTC Kota Kinabalu, NRD Kota Marudu, NRD Papar, NRD Sipitang, NRD Sandakan, NRD UTC Keningau and NRD UTC Tawau," he told a press conference.

With implementation of the programme, the Ministry is confident that issuance of the MyKad could be done within seven working days after the application date because the process of printing the MyKad can be done in nearby hubs or NRD offices here.

All this while, he said, the application and replacement for MyKad in 21 branches can be delivered to the recipients within 30 days as the documents are printed in NRD Putrajaya headquarters.

Kota Kinabalu Zone hub, he said involves NRD Kudat, Pitas, Tuaran, Ranau, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Penampang and Inanam while Keningau Zone Hub involves NRD Tambunan, Tenom and Nabawan.

Tawau Zone hub involves NRD Lahad Datu, Tungku, Semporna and Kunak while NRD Kinabatangan, Beluran, Telupid and Tongod are in Sandakan Zone hub.

Yazid said the programme also showed increase use of the printing machine where in DPP NRD Kota Kinabalu has risen up to 60.74 per cent since April 17 until now. - Lagatah Toyos
