Some KDM leaders silent on issues: PCS
Penampang: Kadazandusun Murut leaders in the Barisan Nasional should be ashamed for allowing themselves to be subjugated to the point they do not even dare to speak on behalf of their own people.Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) President Datuk Seri Wilfred Bumburing said there have been several major issues affecting the rights and dignity of the KDM people that their leaders in BN could at least speak up against such as the perpetually postponed defamation suit in the Native Court against a certain Umno leader and the dire straits faced by villagers in Kg Bobotong.

"In the first case, the Umno leader was sued in the Keningau Native Court after he was found to have used insulting and humiliating words against the Dusun community through text messages to someone.

"However, the case kept getting postponed until now. It was so scandalous yet none of the KDM leaders in BN voiced their concern about this issue.

"The only leaders that did raise their objection were from the opposition, including myself, and a few others.

The Native Court was thrown into the sea," he said.

He said this after officiating PCS Inaugural State-level Kaamatan Festival, here, Friday.

Also present during the event were DAP leaders, including Kota Kinabalu MP Jimmy Wong and Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Chan Foong Hin, Perpaduan Anak Negeri (PAN) leaders and political activist Zainnal Ajamain.

Bumburing also slammed KDM leaders in BN for their cold response to the plight of the Bobotong villagers in Tongod, where 16 of the houses in the village, whose owners were either at their farmland or in Telupid, were destroyed despite pleas of the other villagers.

He said none of the Barisan Nasional leaders went to the ground to see the people themselves.

"Upko President Datuk Seri Madius Tangau didn't come. The Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah never came. The Huguan Siou and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan never said anything.

"Only myself and some DAP leaders came. When we checked the document, we found that they had come there decades ago before the area was gazetted as forest reserves. And yet, the Government blatantly just came and chopped the houses like trees," he said.

Bumburing said when he raised the issue at the State Legislative Assembly, the Government did not provide a satisfactory answer other than that it would be subjudicial.

Yet, he said, he learned that issue was resolved afterwards after the State Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, silently relented to the pressure.

These two cases, said Bumburing, are just examples of the Barisan Nasional's KDM leaders' transgressions.

"So this is what, we in PCS want to fight for, namely to restore the rights and dignity of the KDM people," he said.

Bumburing, who led the party out of the United Sabah Alliance (USA) late last month, also said the party is currently conducting a tour Statewide to explain to their supporters and the people in general on the party's struggle and direction.

So far, he said they have already toured Kota Belud and Kuala Penyu with the next destination being Nabawan, Penampang, Tuaran and Ranau.

"We are a KDM-based multiracial party and we want to work with other opposition parties such as Pakatan Harapan and we want to discuss with Parti Warisan Sabah," he said.

He once again defended the decision taken by the party's leadership to leave USA saying the party's main aim is to change the government, but the others in the coalition had failed time and again to show that they are on the same page as PCS.

Additionally, he said the party is not exactly in favour of remaining in a "marriage" if it means that the partner is free to forge relationship with others behind their backs.

The party is in favour of forming what it dubbed a "Grand Alliance" with other opposition parties who share their ideals and goals of toppling the current government. - Tracy Patrick
