Woman among four caught stealing cable

Kota Kinabalu: Four locals, including a Sarawakian woman, were caught stealing a high-voltage cable at Anjung Perdana, Tanjung Aru Beach 1, on Monday.City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the four, aged between 25 and 34, were arrested for stealing a 4.34-metre electric cable from a demolished restaurant building at 6am.He said the police, acting on a tip-off from a security guard at Waikiki Condominium, Tanjung Aru, spotted the three men putting the cable into the bonnet of a Toyota Vios.

"Realising the presence of police, they tried to escape but the police managed to apprehend the three men and woman in the car," he said. Further inspection on the car, Chandra said, yielded the stolen cable as well as other tools, including a modified grass-cutter machine, believed used to cut the cable.A check at the scene of crime showed the cable, believed to belong to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), was cut from the ground. The suspects have been remanded until June 2 and they are being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code for committing mischief by damaging cables and wires, among others.
