Kota Kinabalu: The Grace Chapel's Grace Charity Fund Committee is set to raise RM100,000 in aid of three non-governmental organisations – Bukit Harapan Home, The Agape Counselling Centre Malaysia (Kota Kinabalu Branch) and Sabah Thalassaemia Society (Kudat Branch)."The Emoji Movie" will be screened on Aug 17 at the City Cineplex Cinema of City Mall at 8pm after a lighting and cheque handover ceremony to the beneficiaries.

Chairperson of the Grace Charity Fund Committee, Datuk Nancy Ho, said the proposed premiere show was the Committee's initiative to stimulate more support from the community.

"As part of its responsibility, the Committee is committed to building a loving society.

Sabah has a big-hearted and caring community. We play a crucial role in making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people in the community. Through the movie, and likewise the media, we are expressing our emotions and spreading the message of love and care for those in need," she told a press conference, Saturday.

Calling for support, Ho, who is Adviser to the Organising Committee, urged parents to spend the evening of Aug 17 with their families at the cinema, saying "The bottom line is to show we care."

"With generous support from the people of Kota Kinabalu, our fund-raising event will be another success story.

If we succeed in raising more than RM100,000, the sum will also be divided equally among the three bodies," she said.

She commended Bukit Harapan Home, The Agape Counselling Centre Malaysia (Kota Kinabalu Branch) and Sabah Thalassaemia Society (Kudat Branch) for doing a great job in caring for the underprivileged since their inception.

At the press conference, the organisations were represented by their Administrator Audra Keyworth, Chairman Frederick Tai Yun Chung and Chairman Johnny Wong Sin Fatt respectively. Also present were Grace Chapel Elder John Ho and President of the Sabah Thalassaemia Society, Francis Mujim.

Bukit Harapan Home, now staffed by 13 full-time co-workers, was founded by prominent social activist Anne Keyworth (popularly known as Mama Anne) in 1998 with the aim of helping people with special needs in Sabah.

About one-third of its residents are disabled, and the remaining two-thirds marginalised persons.

Established in 1994, The Agape Counselling Centre provides preventive and therapeutic counselling for many families and individuals to enable them to get back on their feet again. It requires about RM200,000 a year to run the centre effectively and relies heavily on financial contributions from the civic-conscious community in Sabah.

The Kudat Branch of Sabah Thalassaemia Society was started in 2007 with the support of Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah and his wife Datin Mary Wong who hails from Kudat.

It renders assistance to families from Kudat, Pitas and Kota Marudu.

Meanwhile, Organising Chairman Francis Wong said Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah will be the guest of honour at the movie premiere show.

Members of the Organising Committee present were Pang Lip Hang (Secretary), Lai Su Yin (Assistant Treasurer) and Committee Members made up of Elder John Ho, Senior Pastor Rev Tan Chai Kwang, Pastor Jane Hee, graphic designer David Fong who designed the tickets, choir conductor Thomas Tam and musician Michael Chan.

Tickets are priced at RM20,000 (Platinum), RM10,000 (Gold), RM5,000, RM1,000, RM500, RM100 and RM50.
