Man claims trial to five counts of cheating

Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with five counts of cheating another man of RM2,470 over the purchase of a land lot.Chong Seng Fui, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.On the first count, Chong is accused of cheating one Ong Ching Ho, 55, into believing that Chong would pay for a home valuation report on Ong's house, causing Ong to deposit RM800 into Chong's bank account.

The offence was allegedly committed at 9.55am on Dec 23, 2016 at the Maybank branch in Putatan.On the second to fifth count, Chong allegedly cheated one Jason Francis, 31, by making him believe that he wanted to buy a land lot together with a house on it at Kg Madsiang, in Penampang.Chong's trick caused Jason to deposit RM420, RM600, RM500 and RM150, respectively, into Chong's bank accounts at the Public Bank in Donggongon town in Penampang at 1.05pm and 7.30pm on March 1, this year; at 12.18pm on March 2 and at 3pm on March 3, purportedly to meet the costs of valuation, sales and purchase agreement and legal fees.Each offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, on conviction.

In another case, seven people were sentenced for drug-related offences.Supiyah Arman, Kennedy Junior Joe, Idris Talim and Mujib Benhadi admitted to having syabu weighing 1.60gm, 0.41gm, 0.02gm and 0.05gm, respectively, between March 8 and April 1 this year.

Supiyah was fined RM7,000 or 24 months' jail, Kennedy was fined RM2,500 or 12 months' jail, while Benhadi was RM2,000 or eight months' jail.Idris was jailed eight months.Mohd Ilham Abdul, Ghazali Kahar and Ammah Kalbi pleaded guilty to taking drugs.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
