Labuan: More than 600 runners will take part in the Labuan Chimney Run 2017 to be held on July 8.Most of the runners are from Labuan, Kota Kinabalu, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and Brunei.

The organiser Absolute Encore (AE) is also sponsoring ten hearing impaired runners from the Labuan Society for the Deaf. The run aims to promote a healthy lifestyle as well as one of the historic tourism spots in the island, the 'mystery' chimney at Tanjung Kubong.

Built in the 1980's with 23,000 pieces of imported red bricks, the usage of the 106-feet structure is still a mystery until today. The route will showcase the scenic and beautiful nature of Lumuk Temiang, Sungai Miri and Tanjung Aru where runners will experience two types of surfaces – road and hills.

The event will be divided into two categories – 11km and 21km, which are open for men, women and veteran runners. The flag-off will be conducted at 6am for the 11km run while the 21km run will be at 5am.

It is co-organised by the Labuan Sports Kickboxing Association (LSKA) supported by Labuan Museum Department, Youth and Sports Ministry, Labuan Sports Council, Labuan Corporation, Royal Malaysian Police, Civil Defence Force and Labuan Society for the Deaf. For further information, contact the secretariat office at 016-8702672 or e-mail [email protected] or visit the official Facebook page atError!
