Kuala Lumpur: Naza Corp Holdings Sdn Bhd's unit, Naza Communications Sdn Bhd, has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with its collaboration partners to empower selected rural communities through the usage of mobile broadband with Naza Universal Rural Initiatives (NURI) Programme. The collaboration partners are Malaysian application developers, Buy Malaysia, Car Bengkel, Ezyhaul, Living Space, My Homestay Malaysia and the Telecommunications Engineering College (TEC).

Chief Operating Officer of Naza Communications, Subhash Devan, said the NURI Programme, a multi-phase three-year programme, would be implemented around 200 villages in 80 locations nationwide in three phases throughout a 36-month plan.

"Naza Communications plans to achieve its objective through three criteria, to increase the income of selected rural communities through the mobile economy; utilise mobile applications in assisting the transformation of rural areas to uplift their well-being; and, instil responsible Internet usage to promote lifelong learning and skills enhancement," he told reporters after the MOU signing ceremony.

He said the first phase of the NURI Programme has already been carried out earlier this year at 10 villages in Kedah and Perak.

Naza Communications engaged with TEC as its education partner, together with Human Resources Development Fund and Yayasan Peneraju Bumiputera, to implement the Graduates Enhancement Programme for Employability and Peneraju Skil Iltizam programmes to develop skilled technicians among school leavers and unemployed graduates in selected villages.

TEC would be a one- stop centre to deliver the learning needs for the programme, he said. – Bernama
