Kota Kinabalu: Sabah needs its own Ministry of Education to accommodate various functions which cannot be implemented by the Federal Education Ministry.Parti Warisan Sabah Vice President Datuk Peter Anthony said the failure of the Federal Education Ministry to implement the KDM College in Tambunan is proof that Sabah needs its own Education Ministry.

"Under the Sabah Education Ministry, Sabah University and various training institutions could be set up, including reviewing needs and suitability of the KDM College establishment," said Peter.

Peter, who is also KDM Malaysia President, affirmed that the ground-breaking for the establishment of the KDM College in Tambunan was done before the last election and now after five years, when the next election is just round the corner, the construction of the campus was rumoured to have started.

"Sabah people especially the Kadazandusun Murut community had high expectations on the ground- breaking of the KDM College done by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Aug 8, 2012 in Tambunan," said Peter.

According to Peter, he was made to understand that at the moment a community college was already started by occupying a building around Tambunan town but it is not the KDM College as suggested in terms of courses offered and operational capacity.

Peter believed Warisan would be able to implement the establishment of the KDM College by identifying various skills training to meet the needs of various sectors in the State, including creating education, language and social faculties.

"Warisan has an academic panel which has summed up the method to establish the Sabah Education Ministry and Sabah University without any significant implications on the State's financial position," Peter said.

He said the existence of the facility is highly needed following the closure of the Teachers' Training Institute (IPG) Keningau and is highly demanded by the people to preserve their mother tongue as well as a complete study on Sabah history.

"The facility can be a centre for various Sabah ethnic languages, Sabah history including Malaysia Agreement 1963, diploma of post graduate education in teaching Kadazandusun language and training for kindergarten teachers in various Sabah ethnic languages," he said.
