Check data first before shooting, Pakar chief told

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah Vice President Datuk Daniel Kinsik said the Federal Government never stops providing grants to develop the energy sector in Sabah where RM2.3 billion has been allocated to improve power supplies in the state.The allocation has been dispersed to fund existing projects on the ground, he said in response to a statement by Pakar President Datuk Henrynus Amin who had accused acting PBS president Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili's recent announcement to improve Sabah's quality of power as just a polls gimmick.

He advised Henrynus, who was the former PBS secretary-general, to check his data first.

Kinsik further added that the state's power generation has improved tremendously well, with effort to further reduce the state's System Average Interruption Duration Index (Saidi) from almost 300 minutes to half under the Supply Reliability Task Force - SAIDI 150 (TF150) by next year.

He explained that the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) should not be blamed for the failed two biomass plants in Sandakan, which was highlighted by Henrynus, as the projects were private sector initiatives.

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government continued its momentum in managing the economy in line with the commitment and spirit of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) when it posted record high state revenue of RM6.973 billion last year.

"It has nothing to do with the government or SESB. The biomass plants' owners have internal financial problems and were facing problem of securing supply of raw biomass.

"And there is no such thing as promises by the Federal Government. The RM2.3 billion allocation is already funding existing projects on the ground. Keep in mind too that SESB is not a Federal Government entity, it is a private sector owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad and the Sabah Government," he explained, adding KeTTHA is only the regulator which sets standards and issue the generation licence.

He said Pakar is still very junior in politics and that its members comprised a bunch of "green horns and rookies", while urging the party leaders and members to start the proper way and show their "political shirts and pants", especially their struggle and goals.

"Pakar is just another outlet for frustrated political rookies. They can't find a place in existing opposition parties, so they are just a 'count me in' appendix to the host of Sabah political parties.

But his statement backfires because it only meant that he was a failed secretary general when he was a part of PBS," said Kinsik.
