Thaqif's mum does not believe finding

PETALING JAYA: The mother of Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, who was believed to have died after being allegedly abused in his boarding school, has dismissed a second autopsy report which said that the 11-year old succumbed to leptospirosis, a disease related to rat urine.Felda Wani Ahmad (pic) also took the government to task for delaying the release of the report."Logically speaking, why was there a need to amputate his legs if it was leptospirosis?

Also, wouldn't it have been detected earlier if it was indeed leptospirosis?" she said."I'm a teacher; don't try to spin it. I'm disappointed. When Thaqif was first hospitalised, the doctors could not detect anything, and now all of a sudden it's leptospirosis."It doesn't make sense. I can't accept it," she said.Earlier today, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the forensic investigation on Thaqif had shown that he did not die of injuries sustained through alleged beatings.

"The outcome of the autopsy has found that the tahfiz student passed away because of the disease and not due to trauma or injury as has been made viral (on social media)," he said."The cause of death was leptospirosis and it was complicated with the condition of skin necrosis and microthrombi (blood coagulation) in the entire blood-flow."

"It led to change in skin colour and failure of the organs in functioning," Noor Hisham was quoted as saying.Thaqif had been admitted to the Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Bahru for leg injuries allegedly sustained from assault by a 29-year old assistant warden of the tahfiz (Quran recitation) boarding school he was attending.The injuries caused his legs to become infected, following which they had to be amputated.Doctors wanted to amputate his right arm, which was also infected, but he died on April 26 before this could be done.The first autopsy, which was conducted at the hospital, failed to reveal the cause of death. Felda Wani also said she and her family were disappointed with the health ministry for not being transparent about Thaqif's autopsy."We just found out from reporters what the health director-general had revealed today."The ministry has no problem speaking to the press, but not to us.
