Joining unlawful society: 20 foreigners jailed

Kota Kinabalu: Twenty foreigners, who joined an unlawful society – Knights of the Right Keepers (KRK) — in Lahad Datu, were on Monday sent to prison for 18 months.Filipinos Amri Salleh, Saudi Salleh, Ali Asahad, Muhammad Suip, Darbin Salleh, Bantasan Jalau, Abdul Yakin Suip, Junior Al, Berry Asadir, Adil Sadapi, Sahi Apai, Al Mujir Abdul, Al Mujir Abdul, Arsi Salleh, Hassan Albah, Abdul Latip Musa, Saddam Abdul Ghaffar, Mukim Hiraji, Arabas Abdul Ghaffar, Amri Saril and Indonesian Touch Hamid, aged between 19 and 38, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun.They had committed the offence at 9.43pm on June 24 this year at House No. 115 and 116 of the Rimmer plantation's workers housing, Km 28, Jalan Lahad Datu – Tungku.ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 carries a jail term of up to three years or fine of up to RM5,000 or both on conviction.The 20 were arrested by raiding police following a tip-off.Saudi on behalf of the men, requested for leniency and applied for the sentence to run concurrently with the sentence imposed on them earlier for illegal entry.Inspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, informed the court that the 20 were sentenced to four and five months' jail by the Sessions Court for staying in the State illegally.ADVERTISEMENT When asked by the court on the society's mission, Saudi said the purpose of the group was to help one another.Jessica, in meting out the sentence, told the men, that it was an offence which disturbed public order not to forget the incident which occurred in the same district a few years ago which affected not only the families of those killed but also the country.

She ordered the jail term to run consecutively with the sentence of the immigration case and that they be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.In another case, a 19-year-old local man claimed trial to threatening to injure a woman.Zaz Zailan Alfano Zainuddin Muhamad allegedly threatened to hurt a woman at 6.30pm on June 30 in a unit at the Api-Api Centre here.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both on conviction.The court set July 20 for case management and released Zaz on a bail of RM1,200 in two sureties. - Jo Ann Mool
