Man fined RM6,000 for threat to hurt brothers

Kota Kinabalu: A 58-year-old jobless man was fined a total of RM6,000 on Tuesday for threatening to injure his two brothers.Abel Jinius admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the offence against Peter Jinius, 65, and Obed @ Albert Jinius, 57, at 8pm on July 3 in a house at Kg Kambau, Penampang.

He was ordered to pay a fine of RM3,000 or two months' jail on each count under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to two years or fine or both on conviction.

Inspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, told the court that the brothers were living in the same house with Abel staying on the ground floor and Peter and Obed above him.

On the said day, Abel went to Peter's unit as he was upset over the lack of electricity in his unit and accused Peter of being the cause. Peter, who was well aware of Abel's behaviour, ignored him.

Abel however dragged him out of the unit, punched his face three times, refusing to accept Peter's explanation and threatened to injure him and to burn the house.

Obed, who had just returned home, tried to calm them down with the help of neighbours but he was also threatened by Abel.

Peter, in lodging a police report against Abel, claimed that the latter was known to always cause chaos and go berserk but was always given chances to change his ways.

During mitigation, Abel who was not represented, said he was drunk at that time and claimed that Peter was also drunk.

In another case, a 25-year-old security guard was jailed a day and fined RM25 or a day jail for being drunk and resorting to unruly behaviour in public.

Jallison Manakaan admitted to committing the offence at 9.45pm on July 9 at Kedai Kopi Mei Mei in Kg Air.

The court heard that Jallison had damaged the tables and chairs in the premises and was later arrested by police.

The offence under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Ordinance carries a RM25 fine and jail up to 14 days jail on conviction.

Meanwhile, a marketing officer claimed trial to stealing jewellery.

Susanti Limbud is accused of stealing a gold ring and a gold necklace belonging to one Jenifer Jospenia at 11.40pm on July 3 in an apartment along Jalan Bukit Vor in Putatan.

She was offered bail at RM2,500 in two sureties pending mention on July 25. – Jo Ann Mool
