Kota Kinabalu: A Timorese was apprehended after he allegedly slashed his Kadazan wife who he suspected was having an affair with another man through Facebook in Kg Bawan, Membakut on Friday.

The 45-year-old woman was rushed to the Beaufort Hospital after she was found in a pool of blood behind her sundry shop located some 20 metres from their house.

She was later referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital due to serious injuries. Her condition could not be immediately established as at press time.

Her 52-year-old rubber tapper husband from Kg Bawan, a Permanent Resident from Indonesia, was nabbed by their relative who handed him over to the police following the 9.30am incident.

Beaufort Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak said a machete believed to have been used in the attack was recovered.

Initial findings showed that jealousy could have triggered the man into hacking his wife, thinking she was having an affair with a man on Facebook.

The couple's daughter also said that her parents had frequent arguments since early this year, with her mother always asking for divorce.

In February, the woman left their home and stayed in her sundry shop located some 20 metres from their house.

At the time of the incident, a neighbour claimed to have heard the couple embroiled in a heated argument and allegedly saw the man slashing his wife on the shoulder before fleeing.

This prompted the neighbour to shout for help and to seek help from other neighbours. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
