Published on: Sunday, July 16, 2017

Kota Kinabalu: Police here nabbed three men believed responsible for robbing and molesting two women at the jogging track along Jalan Teluk Likas, here, earlier this month.

The trio, aged between 16 and 20, were picked up around the Kg Likas area between 6pm and 11.30pm on July 11.

Police also recovered a receipt with "Sony E 5803 Imei 0191443 P/S open Lock" written on it, as well as a Sony Compact handphone.

City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the arrests came after a report was lodged by the local women, both 26, at about 7.46am, following the 6.15am incident on July 4.

Prior to the incident, the women were reprimanded by three unidentified men, as they (the women) were heading towards the jogging track from the parking space.

The women ignored the men and proceeded to the jogging track where after five minutes of warm-up exercise, they started jogging and again saw the trio, this time at an open space where there are benches.

About three or four minutes after passing the area where the three men were, the women were suddenly hugged from behind by two of the three men.

One of the woman elbowed one of the suspects but she failed to break free, while the man's accomplice grabbed her Sony Compact hand phone. She saw her friend also being hugged by another suspect.

Both women managed to struggle free and fled towards the car park and lodged a police report.

Chandra reminded visitors to be wary of their surroundings while conducting recreational activities at the public park. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
