Drunk lying on road killed

Kota Kinabalu: A pedestrian believed to be intoxicated was killed after a Toyota Fortuner ran over him as he lay on the road near the night market not far from the Basel Church in Inanam, here, on Sunday. Candok Talib, a 51-year-old Bugis, was pronounced dead by a hospital doctor summoned to the scene. Acting City Police Chief Supt George Abd Rakman on Monday said initial investigations showed that the Fortuner, driven by a 53-year-old man, was heading towards the Pekan Inanam roundabout from Pekan Inanam when the 10pm mishap took place.

The driver did not notice the man lying on the road which resulted in him running over the suspected intoxicated man. It was learnt that the pedestrian had crossed the road but ended up lying on the road instead. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
