Man is charged with cheating trio of RM37,320

Kota Kinabalu: A 35-year-old self-employed man was charged at the Magistrate's Court here Monday with cheating three people a total of RM37,320.Chong Seng Fui, who appeared before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, claimed trial to all five charges against him.

On the first and second count, Chong is accused of cheating one Richard Robert that he would make payment for a house valuation report and stamp causing Richard to bank in RM500 and RM4,000 into Chong's bank account at 6pm, on Sept 1, 2016 and at 3.19pm on Sept 2, 2016 at the Public Bank branch in Putatan.

On the third count, Chong allegedly cheated Richard of RM700 by stating he would pay the legal fees at 4.59pm on Sept 5, 2016 at the same place.

Chong on the fourth count, is accused of cheating one Lo Su Yin, 56, that he could arrange for air conditioner and bed installation at Lo's brother's house at Wisma Perindustrian, Jalan Istiadat here causing Lo to give him RM22,000 at 5.30pm on March 14 this year.

On the fifth charge, Chong allegedly cheated one Melody Myra Sidi @Sideh, 59, by leading her to believe that he could speed up the process of selling her house at Taman Sinar Jaya in Tuaran causing her to transfer RM10,120 into his bank account at 12.30pm on Dec 6, 2016 in Likas.

Each offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, on conviction.

The court set the trial date for Aug 22, 23, 24, 25, 28 and 29 and released Chong on an extended bail.

In another case, three people were sentenced for committing drug-related offences.

Martina Ho and Abdul Razak Hussein admitted to having syabu weighing 0.57gm and 0.07gm on March 16 and April 8 this year in Sadong Jaya and Putatan.

Ho was fined RM4,000 while Abdul was ordered to pay a fine RM2,300 or eight months' jail each.

Norhusin Minding was jailed six months for taking drugs on June 9.
