Kota Kinabalu: Rhino players must learn from their mistakes committed against MISC MIFA in their Premier League encounter at the Likas Stadium on Friday night, where they almost blew a 2-0 lead before winning 2-1 in the end. The team appeared to be cruising courtesy of a double from midfielder Sabri Sahar, with his first from a long range shot in the 15th minute and the second from a well taken free kick in the 27th minute.

However, instead of seizing the opportunity to kill off the game with another goal, they had to withstand a barrage of pressure to pick up the three points against the relegation threatened side.

Despite the win, which was the team's second in a row following their 1-0 victory over UiTM last week, head coach Jelius Ating was not overjoyed with the players' performance.

"It was of course a very good result for us, but I am still a bit unhappy with the way the players are losing the ball unnecessary. l hope the player can see their mistakes and improve in the following games."

He said the players were a bit off colour after scoring two early goals.

"We had a good 30 minutes or so but unfortunately the players lost focus after that, and especially the restart, and I think they were too relaxed and put their guard down allowing their opponents the opportunity to score a soft goal that put pressure on the team."

According to him, the game went into plan with the two early goals from Sabri as he was expecting MISC MIFA to play a very defensive game from the start.

"Our target was to go for early goals because I sensed that they were going to apply a compact game and will opt for quick counter attacks once we lose the ball.

"Therefore I told my players to play a possession game and tried to hold the ball as long as they can and wait for the opening, and it paid off with the first goal from Sabri followed by his free kick."

Meanwhile, the hard-earned victory saw them strengthened their position in the league and they also managed to claw back some points on the teams above them.

They have now accumulated 20 points from 17 matches with six wins, two draws and nine losses.

Only two points separated them and sixth place UiTM with PDRM in between with 21 points.

Their next match is against JDT II here at the Likas Stadium on Tuesday starting at 8.15pm. - GL Oh
