More than 700 expected for City Cycling Challenge

Kota Kinabalu: More than 700 are expected to take part in the second edition of the Kota Kinabalu City Cycling Challenge scheduled to be held on July 29-30.City Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai in a press conference on Monday said the two-day event jointly organised by Kota Kinabalu City Hall, DBKK Cycling Club, Junior Cycling Malaysia (JCM) and Cycling Association of Tuaran (CAT) will comprise four events.

On the first day, the 39km Team Time Trial (TTT) Challenge will start at 6am in Padang Merdeka followed by Criterium Challenge for junior cyclists which will be staged at Menara Tun Mustapha, Yayasan Sabah at 1pm.

The Mass Start Road Bike with a distance of 105km and the 71 km Mountain Bike Challenge will be flagged off on July 30 at 6am in Padang Merdeka.

Yeo said the main objectives of the event are to encourage healthy lifestyle to the community especially among the youth, to produce potential world class cyclists, to create unity among community of all races and religion, to send message to other road users of the importance of sharing the road with cyclists, and also to promote sports as well as tourism sectors.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Youth and Sports Ministry and all the sponsors for their support.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy City Police Chief Supt George Abdul Rahman, Jayreh Jaya from Youth and Sports Ministry, DBKK Cycling Club Deputy President Victor Wong and Jason Ong, President of Cycling Club of Tuaran. – GL Oh
