Kota Kinabalu: Jelius Ating is happy with his players' input in Sabah Rhinos' 1-1 draw with JDT II in Likas Stadium on Tuesday night.Skipper Rawilson Batuil's early headed goal was cancelled out by Che Rashid Che Halim's tap in following a missed kick by Francis Kasonde just before half time as Sabah missed out on the chance to climb into seventh place, but the coach insisted that the players had tried their best.

"If I analyse the performance, I will obviously find weakness, that is obvious and it is not difficult to find that.

But I cannot deny the truth that the boys gave everything they can for the match.

"Our goal conceded was not entirely Francis' fault. It was a missed kick and not done on purpose.

Furthermore, the ball should not have been allowed to make it to the box in the first place, It should have been stopped earlier on by the other players, and we only have Francis and Rawilson who are tall enough to challenge JDT II players who are all with height advantage."

He admitted there was nothing much he can do to turn the match around on the night with his limited squad.

"It was a 50-50 match and some may argue that we could have won the match if we did not concede the goal but then it is also hard to predict.

"There was limitation for me to do anything drastic to the team because I only had 18 fit players in the squad and not all can play in the position that I would like them to. So in the end a draw was a very fair result for both teams."

He hoped the players can continue to improve in their remaining games and try their very best to finish as high as possible at the end of the season. - GL Oh
