Kota Kinabalu: Residents of Federal quarters have been reminded to remain active in any community programme organised by the residential management.Deputy Sabah Federal Secretary Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Ali said their involvement in such activities will be one of the criteria to be taken into consideration to approve the residential tenure five years after staying in them.

"To date, there are 1,500 quarters applications while there are only 501 Federal quarters in Sabah," he said during the launching of the "My Quarters, My Home, My Community" awareness programme at the Indah Permai Federal residential complex, here, recently.

Hence, he said, residents who are provided with the quarters should be thankful and appreciate the opportunity given by the Government.

"They too should contribute towards the development of the facilities in the quarters and help the Government to utilise the maintenance allocation prudently."

The campaign, he said, aims to enhance the awareness of residents on the importance of maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the quarters.

"It is also hoped that through the programme, residents will foster greater cooperation to create a healthy and productive environment and community.

"Apart from that, it is hoped that it will broaden the service delivery system by enabling more cooperation between the Sabah Federal Secretary Office and the residents."

Among the continuous activities planned for the campaign are gotong-royong, safety briefing by the authorities, sports and religious programmes to create a stronger sense of togetherness among the residents.

At the event, Jamaluddin also presented a symbolic key for the Indah Permai Federal quarters to residential chairman Zulkifly Salamun.

The Indah Permai Federal residential complex was previously Universiti Malaysia Sabah's (UMS) student residence since 1998.

"In 2014, Sabah Federal Secretary Office took over the houses from UMS in phases to be used as quarters to cater to the needs of Federal public servants who are working in Kota Kinabalu.

"The process of taking over all of the 296 units completed on May 31, 2016 and many efforts had been done to ensure the quarters are comfortable and safe to be occupied," he said.

Also present were Sabah Community Development Community Director Shahrul Nizam Jantan and Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Director Arfian Julian. - Ricardo Unto
