Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah backpackers Association (SBA) welcomed the news that Malaysians will be exempted from the tourism tax .SBA President Richie Lee thanked Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Nazri Aziz for listening to the views of industry players on the matter .He hoped the "exemption" for all Malaysians, would encourage more locals, including backpackers, to travel within the country.

"For business travellers , it will also lessen their cost of traveling within the country when they are already facing increasing business cost after the implementation of GST," he said.

However , Lee still hoped that Nazri's Ministry will still consider giving exemption to backpacker operators as their guests were more price sensitive.
