3 enforcement personnel nabbed by MACC officers

Kota Kinabalu: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers arrested three assistant enforcement officers for allegedly asking and receiving a bribe from a trader in Beaufort two weeks ago.The suspects aged between 35 and 38 from the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry were nabbed at the Ministry's office in Beaufort between 12.25pm and 12.40pm on Thursday.Sabah MACC Director Datuk Sazali Salbi said MACC made the arrests upon receiving a complaint that the three went to the trader's shop for inspection of price tags and weighing scale on July 14.ADVERTISEMENT In the trader's report dated July 19, he said, the three suspects asked for RM600 from the trader if the latter does not wish to be issued with a compound for committing offences related to price tags on certain goods and on weighing scale under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

He said the trader paid the money to the three suspects before lodging a report to the MACC.Sazali said the three have been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 17(a) MACC Act 2009. - Hayati Dzulkifli
