On-the-spot funding for bailey bridge
Tenom: The Federal Government via its Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister's Department has approved funding on the spot for a bailey bridge to replace a dilapidated bridge at Kg Kapulu here.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the ICU Director-General Datuk Datuk Seri Ahmad Zaki Ansore agreed to provide approved funding immediately after seeing for himself the condition of the present one.

He said he was pleased and satisfied with the swift action of the DG who acted fast without having to wait for so long to process application for a new bridge.

"Normally, we would apply for funding and wait until it is approved. But this time we bring along the ICU's Director-General to conduct official working visits in problematic areas that need quick attention," he said during a gathering of leaders with the people at Sri Antenom hall Thursday.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister cum Infrastructure Development Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, elected representatives here, heads of government departments and agencies and senior officials.

Earlier Musa and the official entourage visited a Mini Estet Sejahtera (Mesej) at Kg Kelanyaan and he officiated a government funding of RM14.9 million Natanduan bridge near Murut Cultural Centre in Polong here before heading to the Sri Antenom hall.

He also called on the people here to continue giving full cooperation to the Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders and government officers so that they could discharge their responsibilities of ensuring development projects are implemented to benefit the people.

On a request by Kemabong assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang on grouses of the villagers here who complained having no lands, Musa said the government is willing to bring out 7,000 hectares of land from the forest reserve so that the landless villagers able to own lands.

On public question when the 14th General Election (GE14) will be held, he said every day is election for him as he meet the grassroots regularly to be close to the people and attend to their needs and interests.

Hence, Musa said there was no need to ask when the GE14 will be held because what important is that the BN leaders are always close to the people.

"Unlike the opposition, they will only come down to meet the rakyat when the election is nearing and make many promises here and there as well as spread lies here and there.

"When the sun has risen, then the opposition no longer be seen…but we in BN always be there for the people," he said.

Musa also commended the briefing on development in Tenom by its district officer Madiyem Layappan that delivered detailed information and facts to enable several ministers and senior government officers at State and Federal level to make plans that could address any shortcomings.

He also officiated a ground breaking ceremony on a site that will build a five-storey hotel in the district. - Mail Matthew
