Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) aims to produce at least two vendors who are champions at the national, regional and international levels every year. International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed ,said MITI also targeted to have 40 new companies participate in the Vendor Development Programme (VDP) for Bumiputeras to ensure the country has internationally-recognised vendors who produced quality products under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

"We have set both qualitative and quantitative targets. In terms of quality, we want the anchor companies to produce products that are at par with those produced by internationally-renowned companies.

"By training 40 vendors every year, we hope to see more Bumiputera vendors in the industry," he said in an interview with Bernama News Channel recently.

As of July this year, some 1,440 vendors have undergone training with 21 anchor companies under the VDP, he said.

Mustapa said MITI has also organised supporting activities like the business-matching sessions in the GLC ExplorAce 2017 programme.

"The programme serves as the platform to showcase products by the vendors and inspire others to follow their footstep," he said, adding that ExplorAce, now in its fifth year, was jointly sponsored by UEM Bhd and Sime Darby Bhd. – Bernama
