30 Sabah schools soon via IBS
Sandakan: Thirty schools are being built using the latest Industrialised Building System (IBS) method and will be ready by year end, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman."The Public Works Department (PWD) will be monitoring the construction works of the schools based on specifications to ensure best work quality that will be enjoyed by the students, teachers and staff.

"We discussed this at the State Action Meeting which I chaired in Kota Kinabalu, recently, which is also the commitment of the government in providing basic infrastructure," he said, when officiating the "Teachers' Day" celebration and presentation of Excellence Service Award (APC) 2016 for Sandakan Education Office at a school hall in SMK Merpati, here, Thursday.

For Sandakan, he said among news schools that would be built are SMk Batu Sapi 2, SMk Gum-Gum 2, SMK Libaran and Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sandakan which is currently operating at SMK Elopura at Mile 11 here.

He also presented the "Tokoh Guru" Award to two retired teachers – Alias Darman Hamzah from Kg Nunuyan here and Khor Meng Keow from Perak – who have contributed a lot to the education of the students here prior to their retirement.

A total of 20 retired teachers were celebrated in the event while 350 educators received the APC.

Also present were Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Zakaria Edris cum Gum-Gum Assemblyman, Elopura Assemblyman Datuk Au Kam Wah, Sabah Education Department Examination and Assessment Sector head Bad Hamid Musli representing Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul and Sandakan Education Officer Sharif Mahada Sharif Attar.

In Sarawak, a similar number is being built via IBS while 60 schools in the peninsula. Musa said the State Government is also committed in developing education together with the Federal Government.

Meeting the community here at Fajar Perdana later, Musa said the Government will be helping the people from time to time as well as providing basic amenities and infrastructures in stages.

On building a bypass at Fajar, he said the new route that will link a road near Road Transport Department with Jalan Utara here will reduce the traffic congestion especially during peak hours, once it is completed.

On low-lying areas in Fajar that are often flooded, Musa said he has asked Sandakan Municipal Council to look into the matter and look for ways to address it.

He has also presented nine wheelchairs to needy people and the elderly. - Mardinah Jikur
