5 injured as vehicles go up in flames after crash

Kota Kinabalu: Five people, including a boy, were injured in a collision between a Nissan and an Isuzu-Dmax, which resulted in both vehicles going up in flames, in Papar, Thursday.Initial information gathered from the State Fire and Rescue Department showed that seven firefighters were deployed to the scene near Kg Kelatuan following a 2.51pm distress call.The five, aged between seven and 45, were rushed to hospital due to slight injuries sustained in the mishap which was brought under control at about 3.20pm.

Papar Police Chief DSP Ladamah Sulaiman, when contacted, said details will only be released once investigations are completed. Several accidents which resulted in vehicles going up in flames, some of them fatal, have been reported in the State over the past months. Last year, two friends were killed in a fiery car crash after a Mitsubishi Pajero ploughed into their Perodua Viva near the U-turn junction at Kg Kalansanan, Jalan Tuaran By-pass.Meanwhile, a Yayasan Sabah office at Jalan St Edmund, Kg Pirasaan, in Kota Belud, was destroyed in a fire the same day.
