Kota Kinabalu: Sabah junior golfer Charlayne Chong has been chosen to attend the 2017 Sime Darby LPGA Development Programme Part Two starting Monday (Aug 14).

The 15-year-old lass from Kota Kinabalu will undergo the five-week development programme fully sponsored by Yayasan Sime Darby, hosted by TPC Kuala Lumpur, formerly known as Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and managed by MST Golf.

The programme which runs until Sept 15 is considered to be one of the best female golfing programme in the region and in line with the world's best performance programmes.

Only 16 players from the country were selected for the programme based on their present and past performances, and it gives Charlayne the opportunity to help prepare her for a chance to qualify for the prestigious Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2017 from Oct 26-29 at TPC Kuala Lumpur.

The first week programme will see the players go through physical and mental game evaluation, individual physical assessments, fitness programme, swing analysis, equipment profiling, golf nutrition, practice and play on course.

Course trainings begin on week two with fitness, long/short game, mental game skills, life coaching, chiro/physio and inside the ropes conducted by Stewart Ginn.

World's top International PGA & LPGA coach Ian Triggs will conduct the third week training with the players, followed by golf performance management with Dr Nicky Lumb , international coach specialising in how to practice in week four before the final week on Performance Training.

Meanwhile, Charlayne was the best achiever from Sabah with her 8th position in the Under-15 individual event at the MSSM meet which ended at Saujana Impian Golf course in Kuala Lumpur. - GL Oh
